In 1865, three brothers from Ireland arrived in Victoria –
they were Thomas, Patrick and John Thyne.
Thomas and Patrick settled in Egerton, and Patrick later moved to
Millbrook. John became a policeman in Portland
and later, Melbourne.
On Saturday, 21st February, family travelled from
all over Australia and New Zealand and a sesquicentennial reunion was held in the Mt Egerton and Gordon
area.
A highlight of the weekend celebrations was the renaming of
a road in Mt. Egerton - the Bungal Access Road (at the end of which was the
Thyne’s original home) was changed to ‘Thynes Road’ in honour of three Thyne
men; Patrick James, John Thomas and Patrick Joseph (Joe). All these men, descendants of the original
three brothers, fought in World War One.
